Before reading the description of those pieces, I found that the artist had created several styles in this group of works. I like the way she made textures with different materials. Although they all have the same tone, which is blue tone, the composition keeps changing. Each work gives me different feelings by changing colour, texture, and arrangement.
The artist has excellent control of dots, lines and surfaces. She knows how to arrange those elements in different focuses. Those three elements play an essential part in the design, so we must learn and use them proficiently. Seeing those works combined on the website gave me a feeling that the artist was creating another space by rearranging the items.
Compared to my works, this artist made more colour compositions than me. She is brave enough to use bright colours without making them seem dirty. Moreover, she used crayon materials and kept those pieces bright and clean, which is pretty impressive.
After reading the artist’s description, I noticed that the blue tone of those pieces is because of the idea of water. The yellow is light, and the environment is the train between Canary Wharf and the City of London. The artist said she was inspired by Night on the Galactic Railroad, so she drew some waves beside the train. Like the train crossing on the surface of the water, that is so romantic.
Night on the Galactic Railroad is a Japanese animation, and the idea of the blog seems to combine the real world with the imaginary world. The idea is excellent, but it seems to lack personal opinion. It will be better for the artist to have more imagination for the blog. In order to relate the main topic, I will recommend adding some science fiction elements, such as Blade Runner. The colour composition and the visual feeling she made remind me the cyberpunk. In Blade Runner, the weather is always rainy, which can relate to the idea of water.
The artist did a great job on her blog—especially with the combination of animation and real life. She kept arranging the items of the train to make a different visual impact is a brilliant idea. If she wanted to develop the blog, maybe look for more references about the inside of the train and take photos from a different perspective.
In conclusion, for me, I have more inspiration for making texture. It will be nice if I practice more on creating textures as a print major student.
