Watercolour piece with fineliner and tracing paper. This is another watercolour piece with market and fineliner, it is an abstract piece of pebbles I photographed. This was a one minute primary research drawing of flowers in the Chelsea flower market, I used fineliner, soft pastel, and marker pens. I did this piece using acrylic, watercolour and gouche paint, I experimented using a printing technique including acetate. This was apart of my primary research and I used oil pastels to respond to autumnal leaves. This was a response to Kofi Ansah’s garment which I saw in the Victoria Albert museum.
Self reflection
I found ‘Intro to Fashion and Textiles’ enjoyable yet also challenging at the same time. I initially thought I would approach the project with ease however looking back I think I could have approached some of my work in different more experimental ways. Going back to the beginning of the project we were asked to go to specific areas in London and explore the colours within the landscape and our surroundings as this would influence and inspire my work. Looking at my work it is clear I took heavy inspiration from markets specifically Portobello market and the Chelsea flower market. I was infatuated with the vibrant colours and texture I could see both in life and within the photographs I had taken, upon this exploration I took a variety of materials with me so I could begin my primary research.
Within ‘Talking Colour’ I think I responded well to my photographs using a variety of medias such as pastels, oil pastels, watercolour paint, acrylic paint and gouache paint alongside different pens however in hindsight I think I could have improved my work by varying more of the backgrounds within my pieces. I showcased a pink and black background, yet I wish I looked further into this and developed my work through the use of different mediums such as collage and different textured backgrounds. This is similar to when I reflect on my pattern work. This intro task helped me in a positive way as I became entirely absorbed with the colour that can be seen around London within everyday life leading me to therefore experiment with techniques and materials that have previously been very out of my comfort zone. This introduction task also further pushed me as a designer to take inspiration from everyday life, my awareness of my own everyday surroundings become personally enhanced as the colours within everyday objects began to resonate with me.
