Talking Color Yanqi Jin

When carrying out two tasks, I made improvement by exploring and trying. At beginning, I just liked to paint in the way that was most comfortable for me and the technique I’m mostly good at. It could see that I use a lot of watercolors in talking color, because I think watercolor can easily fuse different colors, it is a very soft technique. Because of the malleability of water, I can constantly overlay colors. I tried using a combination of crayons and watercolors, but still my images looked mediocre. I think my thought is limited. My paintings are very concrete and realistic, which makes me start to think about how to transfer them into patterns.

At the beginning of talking pattern, due to my limited understanding of printing, I only drew repeating patterns due to my habitual thinking. I extracted elements from daily life and made simple deformation to draw patterns of different sizes and shapes, and drew repeating patterns. I used procreate. For me, the most comfortable part of this app is that it can change the color matching at will. I am always very upset about the color matching, and I am very afraid of making mistakes, so when I draw on the paper, my picture will become more careful. digital drawing, on the other hand, looks well edited, because I keep trying different colors until I’m satisfied. I think this is what I need to improve, I need to be more daring, I am afraid of failure, the image of failure makes me uncomfortable. But if I don’t try, I will never know that there are more possibilities. next time when I draw, I will try to use colors more boldly and freely on paper. I really like the unpredictable texture created by real pigments, which will help me think of more silhouette and patterns when making pattern design, and the colors visible to the naked eye will be more realistic and referable. Next time, I will try more collisions of different media.
