Megumi Nishimatsu- Talking Pattern

I use nail polish to draw, because I want to show some different texture that can make comparison with pens. It goes better than I imagine, it show some metallic texture on paper. Some of them even look transparent.

Starting on the first task, talking colour, I basically just draw what I took in the picture on paper. But when it goes to talking pattern, I start to think how to draw them in to a pattern. Some of them doesn’t goes very well, such as the one with garden eel, I was thinking to draw them in to pattern, but it looks more like a picture.
When I draw during talking colour, I only draw on white paper. Then I found out if I use colour paper to do the drawing, there will be a very big comparison, and the colour will be more vivid. So I use many black paper for talking pattern. But look back to my work, I know that I didn’t use different mix media on one drawing. I use to using one material on one drawing which makes the image look very plan.
In summary, I really like both task. Cause I’m not very confident at my drawing skill, but go through drawing I get some confident that I feels my drawing is not that bad. By observe things and do drawing is a very interesting process. During the process I also found out what I’m lack at and what need to be improved.

You completed all of your tasks and submitted all of your work within the time limit, and I really enjoyed looking at all of your work. Especially the green parrots in the first task, the oil pastel strokes make the parrot’s feathers look shimmering and lifelike. You also uncharacteristically turned the parrot upside down like a bat, making the whole picture more interesting and appealing. The orange color of the parrot’s beak is also the finishing touch, contrasting with the different shades of green on the feathers. In addition, the jellyfish and carp that follow are also very vivid. You used watercolour to portray the hazy and evanescent feeling of the carp in the water, and the casual gray pencil lines to reflect the dynamics of the jellyfish’s tentacles. I can see from these animal forms that you have observed things with great attention to detail, showing their appearance and movements to the fullest. In the second task, you tried something different, such as using dark paper as the background to make the colorful patterns stand out more. I really like the one in which you used nail polish to paint, with different colors of nail polish reflecting the metallic shine. Also, the use of the brush that comes with the nail polish adds variety to the brush strokes. Overall, I think you did a good job on this assignment, but the current painting looks a little bit monotonous. You can try more different kinds of material and expression in the assignments for the future. If you have no idea how to start, you can refer to some of you favorite artists’ works. Additionally, the most important thing is that when you upload your work next time, you can add some notes, such as your inspiration, process and tools. This will make the audience understand your paintings more clearly.

First of all, I’m really impressed by your work. I really like your unique style. Your color scheme looks fresh and comfortable. I especially like the fusion of traditional Japanese elements you made. The selected patterns from kimono for recombination and repeated patterns of different sizes, which has simple aesthetic. I believe these will work well on fabric as well. I also like your digital drawings. They look very postmodern. It could tell your technique is mature, but personally I suggest you could use more media and combine different media and materials into one frame as well, I believe it will have a better effect. I really like your work, which shows your own style and your different views on things. This is not a pure and simply paint from life, but you have your own ideas for transforming patterns, colors and shapes. Expect you to use more media and create more different possibilities.
