Trisha Broker – “Ways of Seeing; Talking Pattern”

Inspired by Mushrooms.

Digital using Procreate and Photoshop.
Inspired by a half eaten orange.

‘Chai time’ – inspired by tea at Regents Park.

Inspired by the vase of purple lilies at home.

Inspired by the still waves seen at River Thames.
I used A4 paper and cut out uneven , wavy lines. I placed it onto wrapping paper from a parcel and used Promarkers to create the waves on top. I edited out the shadows and any other mistakes to make it look clean.

Inspired by a rusted rod I spotted on the road.

Inspired by Indian traditional earrings worn by my friend.

Fabric and marker. Edited on Photoshop.
This again is inspired by wild mushrooms growing on the bark of a tree at South Bank, London.
I cut out a black leather fabric base and intricate lines on white fabric. I placed the white fabric onto the black so that it stands out.

Inspired by the cracks and fungi on a tree.

Inspired by Regents Park Map.

Inspired by the flora at Hyde Park.
Reflection:
Through Task 2, Ways of Seeing – Talking Patterns, I got inspired by daily objects around me. From fungi to flowers, I used a range of media to create patterns. As I went around London for Task 1 and Task 2 searching for objects to be inspired by, I found myself being drawn towards the subtle elements around me. For example, I opened my refrigerator looking for oranges to eat and I was instantly eager to examine the gills of the mushrooms. I drew inspiration and created prints. I wanted to retain the delicateness of the mushroom, hence I used a fine liner pen on paper. Through this task I wanted to experiment and explore as many mediums as I could. After collating all my work, I realised that a few patterns in task 2, are aligned, repetitive or symmetrical. Therefore I decided to create more random and abstract patterns towards the end to have a variety. The easiest medium I could work with were pens. Whether it was a marker or a fine liner. I felt like I had more control over the pattern. I was also comfortable using digital platforms to edit my patterns and multiply them. Even though I wanted to experiment and explore as many mediums as I could, I feel like I could have experimented more with wet media. For future projects, I would like to focus on the object as a whole instead of focusing on details. I aim to work towards creating freer and more expressive designs while widening my colour palette.
